Overtaking

Anyone who has tried to drive a Fiat 127 knows that overtaking anything faster than a tractor is a major challenge. 900cc isn't enough for four wheels.

Fast bursts

Among jazz standards you often find tunes that require short bursts of fast playing. Fast triplets are particularly common. On the guitar your best bet is to use hammer-ons and pull-offs to play such sequences.

Airegin (mp3) by Sonny Rollins got its name by spelling Nigeria backwards (figure that out). It has an ABAB shape. The A sections are fast and energetic whereas the B sections are slow and calm.
